Kick boxing (also Kickboxing) is a fight sport with which hitting is connected with feet and hands like with the martial arts karate with conventional boxing. Elbow and knee pushes are forbidden in some states (e.g., the USA, Australia). In the single schools and sports associations is regulated differently whether the opponent may be held or which hit surfaces are permitted with the opponent. The holds of the opponent, as well as bring to case and in the "clinch" go refers again to the Muay Thai (Thaiboxen). Deep beating is always taboo, however, are permitted in some associations steps (kick) on the thighs (Lowkicks). Dependent on association differently is also regulated the use of hand trick beating and foot brushes (the technologies with which the opponent is unbalanced). Kick boxing as a competition discipline decreases to 1974, at that time one said „All style karate“, "sports carats" or "Contact carats". This year the founders of the world association WASKO (World all style karate organisation) agreed, Mike Anderson, Georg F. Brückner and other on it, the traditional Far Eastern fight methods like Taekwondo, karate, Kung Fu etc. to make a sporty competition with uniform rules and to line up against other fight systems. In 1985 the Shootboxen developed from it. The WAKO and the WKA are the biggest world associations and straighten yearly world championships.
Although kick boxing is a modern, western fight sport, wise training and competition many resemblances to the traditional boxing, Savate and Muay Thai on.

Just and belts
As with the karate, Taekwondo or judo the coaching can reach degrees (Kyū/Dan) which are marked by a coloured belt in some kick box associations. At the beginning one has no belt, one speaks of the white belt. Then other degrees can be reached by check. Subsequently the sportsmen carry the suitable belt and receive often also a document about the successful check in "sports karate". The order:
- Yellow (7th schoolboy's degree)
- Orange (6th schoolboy's degree)
- Green (5th schoolboy's degree)
- Blue (4th schoolboy's degree)
- Mauve (3rd schoolboy's degree)
- Red (2nd schoolboy's degree)
- White - brown
- Brown (1st schoolboy's degree)
- Black brown
- Black (1. Dan)
The black belt corresponds to the 1st master degree (1. Dan). Then other master degrees can be reached by special check, in most associations check is up to 4. Dan possibly. Nevertheless, these DAN degrees are often lent to the people who have made themselves deserving for this sport. Long-standing trainers and successful fighters count to it.
Competition kinds
There are different competition kinds in which opponents of the same weight classes are confronted in the ring or on the mat.
Semikontakt
With the Semikontakt the fight is interrupted after every successful hit in the body of the opponent for a short time, and the fighters proceed again in the starting position. Every hit is valued during this short interruption by three judges. If the judges on an assessment cannot agree, there is no point, because the technologies should be explained cleanly and unambiguously. At last that wins of the mostly points awarded agrees.
Semikontaktkämpfe are often delivered on mats and not in the boxing ring. The size of the fight surface varies between 6 x 6 and 8 x 8 metres.
Every clean technology which achieves a permissible aim and hits with light contact is valued according to degree of difficulty with the following hit points (the points can vary at different associations):
- 1 point for permissible hand technologies of all kind to the body
- 1 point for permissible foot technologies of all kind to the body
- 1 point for foot brushes, clear break of the balance, opponents goes down
- 2 points for permissible technologies of all kind to the head
- 2 points for foot brushes with immediate subsequent technology
- 2 points for permissible jump kicks to the body
- 3 points for permissible jumped foot technologies of all kind to the head
Light contact
In the light contact it is mostly fought on mats. The aim is to achieve more hit than the opponent. In contrast to the Semikontakt is interrupted not after every achieved hit, but is fought on. Carrying of protective equipment (closed, mostly 10 oz gloves with men, 10 oz with women, foot and shinbone protection, head protection, deep protection, breast protection with women and of course a set of teeth protection) is a duty. Light contact is technical and is very demanding above all konditionell and demanding. In the tournament company the light contact fights belong to the highlights of such events. Every round is to be valued by every judge individually. The assessments of a round should occur after the number of the actual hits. Moreover, an auxiliary point can be awarded after every round for the better technology and tactics which consists according to the following criteria:
- Effectiveness of the attacks
- Combination ability
- Cleanness of the fight style
- Effectiveness of the defence
- Balance of hand and foot technologies
- Overall impression of the sporty achievement
The criteria after those itself the auxiliary point composes, are valid as well as for light contact and full contact.
Full contact
The full contact variation of the kick boxing is delivered in contrast to the other fight styles in a boxing ring. Besides, the fight not only about points can be won, but also by K. SUPRA this is able by a precipitation of the opponent (K. SUPRA) occur, as well as by the fight inability of the opponent (technical K. SUPRA). In many full contact fights steps are permitted against the thighs (Fullcontact with Lowkicks). Often is spoken of this discipline also as a so-called "king's discipline" in the kick boxing.
Point evaluation (the information can deviate depending on the respective association):
- 1 point for permissible hand technologies of all kind to the head or body
- 1 point for permissible foot technologies on the thigh (only with Fullcontact with Lowkicks)
- 2 points for permissible foot technologies of all kind to the body
- 3 points for permissible foot technologies of all kind to the head
- -Here 1 point for blows under the waistline (is the direct area under the waistline, meant so the step. As already mentioned on top, the kick can be permitted to the thigh. This depends on the association. Also an arrangement between the person responsible and the fighter or to kick box stables is possible. This is often the case if the fighters fight in different associations and the set of rules differs in this point.)
Decisions
The following decisions can finish a fight:
- Victory by precipitation - K. SUPRA only in the full contact
- Victory by job of a fight
- Victory by demolition because of technical superiority only in the Semikontakt if to hit difference 10 evaluation points amounts.
- Victory by demolition of a fight because of fight inability or defensive inability or sporty inferiority
- Demolition because of injury
- Victory by points system
- Victory by disqualification of the opponent
- Undecided may not be given during the tournament. It may occur only in single fights, friendship fights or team's fights.
- Victory by Nichtantreten
- Demolition without decision if the fight cannot be continued any more according to the rules as well as as a result of higher power (damaged ring, failure of the lighting etc.)
Age groups
- Men are all sportsmen who have completed the 18th year up to the completion of 40 years.
- Ladies are all sportswomen who have completed the 16th year up to the completion of 40 years.
- Juniors are all male sportsmen who have completed the 16th year and have not completed the 18th year yet.
- Youngsters in the Semikontakt are all sportsmen / Inside who have not completed the 16th year yet.
- Youngsters in the light contact are all sportsmen / Inside who have completed the 13th year and have not completed the 16th year yet.
- Senior citizens are those sportsmen / Inside who have completed the 35th year up to the completion of the 50th year. In this age group no championships will separate only friendship fights delivered.
Fighters less than 18 years may take part in tournaments only with written permission of the education beneficiary.

Olympic ambitions
Related martial arts like the boxing or Taekwondo are represented in the programme of the Olympic games. In addition, karate finds a worldwide presentation stage with the World Games. Reputation
The kick boxing still suffers from a relatively bad call. The reasons for this lie above all in unawareness of the rules reasonably. K1 fights are often equated falsely with the kick boxing. But also martial names of kick box associations have encouraged the bad image.
